That Squishy Feeling.

I love to color, you guys! Like, LOOOOVE it! During the winter, we enrolled Eloise in a swim class on Saturdays. So every other Saturday, Brian and I would take turns taking her to swim class. One Saturday, it was Brian’s turn to take her to swim class. I had about 2 hours to myself…well, besides taking care of Huddy Buddy. He napped, so I really did have 2 whole hours to myself. And what did I decide to do with my time you might ask? I colored! I took out my…er, I mean, Eloises Lisa Frank coloring book and her new markers I got her (really, I got them for myself) turned Clueless on Netflix and had a 90’s theme 2 hours to myself. Now, I could’ve done soooooo many other things that would’ve been much more productive and wise with my time. But, I really really really wanted to color. Those fresh, new markers were just screaming for me to use them! And, I mean, who can resist Lisa Frank! I was happy to see Brian and Eloise when they got home, but I was secretly really bummed I didn’t get to finish the picture I was working on. I could color for hours and be so content. It’s one of the many reasons I love having a daughter. She’s just now getting into coloring. She’ll sit and color for about an hour. Sometimes, I join her and other times, I choose to work or be an adult.

Most photographers will tell you that editing is one of the most daunting tasks we have to do in the whole process. It takes a long time and it just gets boring. But, I REALLY love the editing part! It’s like I have my own coloring book. Granted, the colors are already there, but I get to enhance them or take them away, or just add that little spark that makes it my work. When I’m done with an image, I’ll look at it and be completely satisfied. It’ll give me that good squishy feeling in my tummy I just love. You know the feeling…the one where you’ve been craving a certain food for a while and then once you devour it, you just want to sigh and take a niiiiice, happy nap. I also liken it to placing my cheek against my baby’s chubby cheek and squishing our faces together. It’s a squishy feeling. “He’s my squishy and I will call him squishy.” – name that movie!

This picture of Katie and Nathaniel during their engagement session gave me that squishy feeling when I was done editing it. They were so great to shoot! You guys, it was terribly, terribly cold down by the TIdal Basin that morning. I mean, I really underestimated how much I should dress. They were such troopers. But really, it gave them an excuse to squish together more. 🙂
